Straight-line distances. Nearest named waterway via the USGS National Hydrography Dataset; nearest transmission line via HIFLD. Baseline water stress and groundwater trend describe the surrounding hydrological basin (WRI Aqueduct 4.0, CC BY 4.0) — not this facility’s measured water use. Principal-aquifer system underlying the location (USGS, mapped at 1:2,500,000 — regional context, not site hydrogeology).
Two combined-cycle units at the Person County Energy Complex, using GE Vernova advanced gas turbines (four turbines total for the project). First turbine arrived on site 2026-07-23; the steam turbine generator was expected later in 2026. Duke's adjacent Mayo coal units are expected to retire by 2031 and Roxboro (Hyco) coal units by 2034. Duke has attributed its gas buildout in the Carolinas in part to fast-growing data center load.
