IPA's own page states the replacement units deliver '840 megawatts net generation output' and began commercial operation in July 2025, running '30 percent hydrogen fuel at start-up, transitioning to 100 percent hydrogen fuel by 2045.' Mitsubishi Power describes the plant as an '840 MW class GTCC' built on two M501JAC gas turbines plus two steam turbines and two generators, replacing a coal facility of 'about 1.8 GW'. Hydrogen is to be stored in solution-mined geologic salt caverns at the adjacent Advanced Clean Energy Storage project, which Mitsubishi describes as a '220 MW water electrolysis unit' producing 'up to 100 tons of green hydrogen per day'. LADWP is the largest purchaser and acts as Operating Agent and Project Manager; other participants are municipal utilities and rural cooperatives across six states.
